HISTORY

Miako Usui - was a President of a Christian University In Kyoto Japan in the 1800's.  During a discussion with his students he was asked if he believed the bible literally and he replied that he did.  They then asked if he specifically believed that Jesus walked on water and being able to heal the sick.  This question changed his life from that point on and lead him on a path to study in search of the answer for his students.  This devotion helped create his legacy and the foundation of REIKI.  It's said Mikao travelled to America initially but found no answers so returned.  He went on to study Buddhist healing techniques but found it didn't take into account the person as a whole both spiritual and pysical so found another monastery sympathetic to his desire to find answers.  It was here he studied Japanese translations, ancient texts and Chinese text.  It was only when he studied Sanskrit the original Buddhist text he found hints of what he was looking for.  He took a spiritual journey by fasting and meditating for 21 days.  The story goes that by Usui's last day upon the mountain where he'd spent his time he was extremely weak and in a heightened state of mind he noticed a beam of light shooting towards him which struck him over.  He apparently saw bubbles of light and in each one was a symbol that he'd seen during his research.  He became aware of how he should use these symbols and knowledge flooded his mind.  Afterwards he felt energised and strode down the mountain he stubbed his toe but was able to stop his bleeding by cupping the wound on his hands.  He came across an inn-keepers daughter who had a swollen face which Usui cupped in his hands and took away her toothache.  He then knew exactly what to do and decided to take his new technique to the poor.  This was a success and they returned again and again for his help with the same old ailments.  Usui became aware that they preferred their poorer life styles living off the charity of others and realised that he could heal their physical issues but hadn't taught them to appreciate their health and made it easier for them to return to old habits.

Now as far as the bolt of light striking him and after only 21 days of fasting he suddenly created his system doesn't quite sit true to the more devoured reiki masters.  It is far likely that his system was developed over many years of study and his final principles were probably finalised up on that mountain through clarity of mind more than some miracle.

These principles were motivated by Usui desire to guide the thoughts and attitudes of others.  He called it REIKI and his technique was the foundation of the USUI REIKI we see today.  The latter part of his story explains how he was approached by the imperial army to adapt his method of healing so that it could be taught and used on the spot in combat situations.  This is when Usui developed symbols to quickly acquire the energy.  He did not apply this in his normal teachings of REIKI.  In fact it would sometimes take months for students to go from one level to the next and the transition completed by a set of Reiju Empowerments.  The attunements we are familiar with today were a much later addition and not created by Usui himself.  Usui's original system was based on simplicity and deep personal growth something which is promoted on the training program by us at Achaiah Reiki Treatment.

Key Words

'Ki' pronounced 'key' is the Japanese word to explain the energy field known as universal life force which REIKI practitioners use and channel through the recipients body.

'REIKI' pronounced 'ray key'  is Japanese and is translated into English as follows:-

'Rei' it's closest word translated into English is 'Universal' or maybe 'transcendental'.

'Ki' is translated as 'life force energy' it is similar to the Chinese word 'Chi' or Indian word 'Prana'

'Ki' is lifes' energy and without it living creatures could not exist.  It is the vital life force and the essence of our beings.  It is in infinite supply which exists all around and is generated by us, the planet and the universe surrounding us.  It is neither positive or negative and therefore the perfect balance of energy and when 'Ki' is low illness can prevail.

Chakra points - in certain belief systems are centres of life force that are assigned to major parts of the human body such as arteries, plexuses, veins and nerves.  The word chakra translates from a Sanskrit word meaning spinning wheel.  There are several chakras that travel along the kundalini line of the body which is almost along the spine.  There are seven primary chakras known as Base or root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third eye and Crown.  However there are others that are away from the body but around its' energy field such as the Earth star chakra based about 12 cm below the base of the feet, Navel over your tummy button, Causal above and slightly set back above your head, Soul star slightly higher and Stellar gateway even higher and at the very top.  With REIKI we channel the 'Ki' energy through these chakras and work through any blockages by sending more energy to that point.  This allows the energy to flow freely and at a balanced rate.

Blockages - I prefere not to think of energy as blocked but more as areas within your energy field where the energy is running low and affecting the chakra points to spin too quickly or too slowly.  This has an effect on the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of your body.  REIKI guides 'Ki' energy through these areas to bring them back into balance allowing your energy to flow equally.  Which results in a healthier body, mind & spirit and illness can subside.
